(KHNL) The race for U.S. Congress got a little more crowded Saturday as current state senator and former sportscaster Bob Hogue announced he is making a run for Ed Case's former seat.

Surrounded by supporters, Bob Hogue officially announced his intention to run for Hawaii's 2nd District house seat. The district covers central, leeward and windward Oahu as well as the neighbor islands.

Hogue says he is uniquely qualified for Congress because of his experience as a state senator and as a journalist.

"We're tired of the rancor that we hear, the partisianship that we hear in Washington DC, we want politicians who are positive, who stand up for the small communities, who stand up for small businessmen, who stand up for kids, and it all starts here on this beautiful day in Kailua" said Hogue.

Hogue joins other state lawmakers who have either filed for the race or said they are interested, including Matt Matsunaga, Duke Bainum and former Lieutenant Governor Mazie Hirono.
