(KHNL) There are many questions being asked a day after an apartment fire in Wahiawa claimed the life of two year old Nathaniel Nunes. Sadly this is not the first tragedy the Nunes family has had to cope with.

The little boy s father, Jon Nunes was murdered over a year ago and the family was still trying to deal with that loss when this latest tragedy struck. A bunny in a basket sits in front of the house on California Avenue in Wahiawa, in memory of the little boy who died in the fire.

"He was a beautiful young boy. Had a tremendous smile" said pastor Jack Smith.

Firefighters found the two year old's body in a closet Sunday afternoon. The family's pastor is mourning the toddler's death.

"I was part of  the family, so close-knit that I helped deliver Nathaniel, who died in the fire yesterday."

The boy's mother Cristina Nunes and four other children escaped, but Nathaniel didn't make it.

Kerry Sanders is charged with fatally stabbing Jon Nunes outside of a Wahiawa market in November of 2004.

As fire investigators try to figure out how the fire started neighobrs say one child may have started the fire with a lighter.

Meanwhile Pastor Smith comforts Christina Nunes.

"A sense of here we are again, pastor. She had been trying so hard, keeping the family together, keeping them in church and school."

Smith says Christina will get through the tragedy with the help of her faith, family and community. The man accused of killing her husband goes on trial in May.
