PUNALUU, Oahu (KHNL) The water came up in coastal areas like Punaluu, washing over roads and slowing traffic.

In Punaluu, Kamehameha highway was covered in water up to 2 feet deep Wednesday night. All of that flowing here to a drain but the water is coming so fast  it can't get out fast enough and led to the backup on the road and all this water on Kamehameha Highway. Flood waters also washed into homes.

Meanwhile at the other end of Punaluu some places were just as bad. The problem is not the rain here, it's the rain up in the mountains. That runoff has turned a private road into a lake and put another driveway underwater, along with Eli Keolanui's house which had just been cleaned from last week's flooding.

"We just got done cleaning up all over here....all the mud and water." said Keolanui.

Even with all the water on the roads there were no road closures on the windward side. Civil defense did contra-flow Kamehameha Highway in Punaluu because of the deep water on the road.
