Police Called to Prevent Student Brawl

(KHNL) A fight during recess puts the students of Nanakuli Intermediate and Nanakuli High School under lockdown on Monday.

Witnesses say the incident started during a pickup game of football. Some older high school students apparently tackled and pushed an eighth grader. The 13 year-old fell and hit his head on the concrete.

Classmate Destiny Koyama Burgo described the scene, "I guess one of the boys pushed him he hit his head. I guess they wanted to start trouble and then well I guess Shawn hit his head and had seizures and that's when the ambulance came".

A brawl broke out when the victim's friends sought revenge. Campus security officers ordered a lockdown and called police. H-P-D officers patrolled the campus and helped enforce the lockdown.

The victim was taken by ambulance to the hospital with a serious head injury.

This is the second time a fight has broken out at a Leeward high school in less than a week. Police responded to a fight last week at Kapolei High School.
