Wet Weather Drenches Hawaii

(KHNL) These pictures tell the story. A swollen Wailuku river spilling over after days of almost non-stop rainfall.

A soccer park sat quiet because it was submerged under water. The wet weather forced Hawaii Island Civil Defense to close a portion of Highway 11 in the Kau district because of flooding.

All of this rain is falling as wet snow above 12 thousand feet.

There was snow on the summits of the Big Island overnight. The road to the summit of Mauna Kea was closed Thursday because of the snow and ice.

On Oahu, spotty heavy showers causing minor flooding on roadways. A flood advisory was up for a portion of Thursday afternoon. the island was socked in for most of the day and umbrellas were popping up around town with the passing showers.

Although to some, this rain may seem like a nuisance forecasters say December was an unusually dry month for the state, so some of this steady showers is good news for the islands.
