(KHNL) A big portion of the H-1 freeway will be closed overnight January 17-19 and 23.
It's part of the H-1 widening project, which will provide six Ewa-bound lanes to the Pearl City off-ramp.
"We're gonna be connecting the existing portion of the freeway with the widened portion and to do that we're gonna pour concrete to connect the two pieces," said Scott Ishikawa with the Department of Transportation.
That means, they're closing the freeway in both directions between 9:30pm-4am.
"We can't afford to have concrete on the freeway, that causes vibration and that can affect the way the concrete sets," said Ishikawa.
This closure should not be affected by a potential strike by Hawaiian Cement employees. But it could affect a portion of the project that still needs concrete.
Drivers are being asked to take Kamehameha Highway or Moanalua Road through Aiea and Pearl City.
