HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Hawaiian Dredging breaks ground today on Kulana Hale, a rental project in Kapolei. It's the vacant lot at Wakea and Haumea, across from Brick Oven Pizza and the veterans' center. The California developer plans almost 300 affordable rentals for seniors. It'll be walking distance from that senior citizen favorite, Chuck E. Cheese's.

The largest barbecue chain in America is Dickey's Barbecue Pit, out of Texas. It has hundreds of locations in 45 states. And it's coming to Hawaii. Opening is next month in Kealanani Plaza in Kapolei. It'll be the first Dickey's location where one of the sides will be rice. Texas barbeque tends to be more tomato-based than Carolina barbecue and includes beef brisket.

Voting has started for the People's Choice Awards by the Hawaii chapter of the American Institute of Architects. You can vote for your favorites among 37 recent design projects, on the AIA Hawaii website. Winners get their props November 15 at the Bishop Museum. If you look at the photos you'll find you've been inside these projects or seen them from the street.

After traveling to a lot of other places Sheldon has a new sense of how unique certain Hawaii dishes are, and that'll be the focus of his next venture, Lineage, opening next month in the Shops at Wailea.
