HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Sales for the first of eight planned residential towers in Ala Moana kick off Saturday.
Condos in Azure Ala Moana, which will be located at 641 Keeaumoku St., start at $550,000. A three-bedroom, three-bath unit in the condo will set you back more than $2.1 million.
Azure Ala Moana will feature 330 units on 41 floors, plus two floors of commercial space.
Some 165 residential units will go on sale Saturday to prospective owner-occupants.
And on Friday, dozens had already lined up for a chance to purchase a unit.
The building will also have 78 affordable rental units, but those aren't yet available.
Last year, the development sparked controversy after planners said tenants of the affordable units would access the building through a separate entrance.
Affordable housing advocates objected, calling the entrance to the affordable rentals a "poor door." And the developer dropped the plan.
Azure Ala Moana is one of a number of new developments planned for the Ala Moana area.
Isaiah Yuuki Block, principal broker for Seven Signatures International Corp., said the kick-off of sales at Azure represents the start of a significant construction boom for Ala Moana.
He said four of the eight planned developments will have hotel components.
The new projects are also aimed at dovetailing with the rail project, which will end at Ala Moana Center.
