A tropical storm warning is now posted for Maui County and the Big Island, and a tropical storm watch is in effect for Oahu as Hurricane Olivia is forecast to move through the islands as a tropical storm.
The current timeline calls for tropical storm conditions, including strong winds and heavy rain, beginning late Tuesday into Wednesday.
Ahead of Olivia, weather will be mostly sunny with light northeast winds. Those winds will increase Tuesday.
A high surf advisory is in effect for the east shores of the Big Island and Maui County. Surf is expected to rise to 5 to 8 feet Monday, building to 10-14 feet Tuesday. Surf could reach warning levels of 12 to 20 feet Wednesday.
