PAUOA (HawaiiNewsNow) - A nonprofit organization started by the family of the late Sen. Daniel Akaka donated books to Pauoa Elementary School on Friday as part of its "Aloha Books" campaign.
The group is delivering the free books to kindergarteners in Head Start programs, at charter schools and public schools throughout the state. The Aloha Book donation and delivery season kicked off at Pauoa Elementary School, where over 80 students received brand new free books.
"We are honored that the Ohana 100 foundation has chosen our school to launch this initiative and thank them for their tremendous generosity," said Principal Dale Arakaki, in a statement.
"We have more than 83 students who will be receiving books and we look forward to seeing how this gesture will spark a love for reading and fuel their curiosity," Arakaki said.
