The trade winds have strengthened enough for a Wind Advisory to be issued for Lanai and Kahoolawe, and parts of Maui and most of the Big Island for winds of 20 to 30 miles per hour with higher gusts. Winds won't be quite as strong elsewhere, but will still be gusty. Passing showers will ride in on the trades.
Showers are expected to increase late Friday into Saturday as a disturbance moves close to the islands to the northeast. A drier airmass will move in by late Sunday into Monday. We're also tracking hurricane Hector, but it's still too soon to tell if and how it will affect our weather.
A High Surf Advisory is up for east-facing shores for a choppy trade swell, with smaller surf elsewhere. There's also a Small Craft Advisory continuing for all Hawaiian coastal waters due to strong winds and high seas.
