Kunia on-ramp to H-1 reopened as police investigation continues

KUNIA, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A police investigation shut down the Kunia Road on-ramp to the H-1 Freeway eastbound early Tuesday.

It was closed around 3:50 a.m. but reopened around 4:45 a.m.

A Hawaii News Now crew, who arrived on scene shortly after the road closure, saw several vehicles pulled over in addition to a heavy police presence.

Police could not provide further details, but they did say an active investigation is underway.

Josh Knicks, a 19-year-old who was in one of the vehicles, told HNN he was leaving a party when someone fired shots at him and his friend.

"There were these kids getting all crazy, they started to shoot," Knicks said. "Our car was hit four times in the windshield, one time in the back windshield, two times in the back, and then one skimmed his head."

Knicks said he saw three people being taken into custody.
