Police seek suspect in deadly hit-and-run crash in Kunia

KUNIA, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Police are asking for the public's help in finding the driver of a vehicle involved in a deadly hit-and-run in Kunia on Tuesday.

The Honolulu Medical Examiner identified the victim of a hit-and-run as 49-year-old Meechok Chanphut, of Kunia.

Authorities believe Chanphut was walking along the shoulder of Kunia Road near the Plantation Road intersection when he was struck.

CrimeStoppers said debris left at the scene belonged to a Ford, either a 1997 Ford Expedition or a 1997 Ford F150 or F250 truck.

No other information is known about the vehicle that fled the scene.

A witness called police when he saw the victim lying on the side of the road.

This death was the 34th traffic fatality on Oahu this year, compared to 23 at the same time in 2017.
