HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Welcome back to Smart Money Mondays. Today we're going to find out one of the most enjoyable and affordable times of year to travel, and it may not be when you think. It's not your typical travel season. It's fall.
Fall travel is usually less crowded and less expensive, mainly because it's not peak travel season like the winter holidays or summer. Usually, in fall it's not too hot but it hasn't gotten too cold either. And there are so many destinations where fall is absolutely beautiful.
When planning for your vacation, start by looking at flight options. If you have flexibility about where to travel, you can search flights fare aggregator or metasearch sites and see what's most affordable, because different destinations have lower fares during the fall season. Pick a place based on discounted airfare! Also, if you're flexible about when to travel, you can use these sites and get last minute fall specials, which are even better than summer or winter. Flexibility can be a real money saver.
You'll also want to create a budget for food and lodging. And don't necessarily stay in a hotel, look at air BnB and Vrbo where off-peak rates could save you a lot. Fall is also a great time to think about cashing in those credit card rewards points, because availability is more open than during other times of the year.
