Bodybuilders from around the world compete in Honolulu competition

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Competitors from around the world came together to put hours of intense exercise and strict dieting to the test at a local bodybuilding competition on Saturday night.

The 2018 Ikaika Classic was held at the Hawaii Theater in Downtown Honolulu this weekend.

The four different categories in the local competition included body building, figure, physique and bikini. About 200 men and women took the stage to compete in the event.

Although the all of the competitors were applauded for their hard work and dedication, one of the biggest cheers of the night came when a bodybuilder proposed to his long-time girlfriend.

Ross Sugiyama, who won first place in the bantam weight bodybuilding division, proposed to his girlfriend Kari Oki after she finished her routine in the novice bikini division.

Both Sugiyama and Oki workout regularly at the YMCA in Kahala.

After Oki finished her final pose, Sugiyama popped the big question, "I thank the universe everyday to let me love you and be with you and I want it forever," Sugiyama said. "Forever and beyond, so Kari - will you marry me?"

Oki said yes in front of hundreds of screaming fans.

The winners of the competition qualified to compete in national physique competitions around the country.
