LAS VEGAS, NEVADA (HawaiiNewsNow) - The Israel Adesanya show has arrived to the UFC at the expense of Hilo native Brad Tavares.
Tavares, the No. 8 middleweight in the UFC, started out well in the first and was able to exchange with Adesanya with some effectiveness.
However, it didn't take long for "The Last Stylebender" to impose his will on the Hawaiian, who was cut up badly from an elbow form Adesanya during the fight.
Using knees, high-level striking and hellacious elbows, Adesanya proved why the hype surrounding him is real. In just his third UFC, Adesanya was able to neutralize Tavares' wrestling, which was seen a a major advantage in favor of the UFC veteran.
Despite the loss, Tavares showed tremendous heart from the second round on to survive the onslaught of strikes from Adesanya, who will now look for another Top 10 fight the next time he steps inside the Octagon.
