Volunteers remove 10,000 pounds of marina debris from Kauai coastline

KAUAI (HawaiiNewsNow) - Volunteers from three environmental groups removed about 10,000 pounds of marina debris from a remote coastline on Kauai over the weekend.

Members of the group used helicopters, trucks, and a ton of manpower to remove the marina debris on Saturday morning. Officials from the debris removal say that the coastline is the first thing people see when flying into Lihue.

The debris was collected from a collaboration between Sustainable Coastlines Hawaii, the Surfrider Foundation and the B-Rad Foundation back in January.

Officials with the environmental groups say 300 volunteers had to boat and hike in just to get to the cleanup.

The next beach cleanup with Sustainable Coastlines is scheduled for August 18th on Molokai.
