KAUAI (HawaiiNewsNow) -

Kauai County is launching a new effort to help quickly rebuild homes in the wake of April's historic floods.

In the next couple of days, Mayor Bernard Carvalho Jr. plans to sign an emergency ordinance to speed up the permitting process for the next 60 days. More than 350 homes were damaged in the deluge, affecting the lives of several hundred Kauai residents.

The Planning Department is also opening field offices to help fast-track the applications.

From 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. officials will staff the Anahola Clubhouse on Wednesday, the Hale Halawai on Thursday, and Hanalei Colony Resort on Friday.
