Light trade winds are in the forecast period through the middle of the coming week, as a high pressure ridge remains close to the islands. The overall background wind flow will shift to a more northeasterly direction Sunday, which should nudge volcanic haze away from the smaller islands. Vog forecast models are still showing widespread vog on Hawaii island, but shifting to the south and west areas of the island over the next 48 hours with the winds.
As far as rain, there's nothing organized, with any showers favoring windward areas. However, the trade winds are light enough to allow afternoon sea breezes, which will lead to clouds and possible pop-up showers for interior areas.
A High Surf Advisory will remain posted overnight for the west facing shores of Hawaii island. The current swells from the south and the west-northwest will gradually decline over the next few days.
