HPD: Speed, drugs possible factors in fatal crash in Kaaawa

KAAAWA,OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Honolulu police are investigating a crash early Friday that killed a man and critically injured two others near Kualoa Ranch.

It happened around 12:45 a.m.

Officials said a pickup truck, driven by a 37-year-old Kaneohe man, was traveling on Kamehameha Highway when it slammed into a minivan parked on the ocean side of the road.

A man in his 60s was killed after he was pinned between the minivan and a rock wall, police said.

Two male pedestrians who were near the minivan were critically injured.

Police say they believe the truck driver was speeding and under the influence of drugs.

The road was closed for several hours, but it was reopened just before 5 a.m.
