HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Jackson Rees was the first Rainbow Warrior baseball player to sign on the dotted line with the Toronto Blue Jays after the MLB Draft, but now redshirt junior catcher David Noworyta is following suit after signing with the Detroit Tigers.
Noworyta batted .273 for the Warriors despite limited opportunities to play behind a talent-stacked depth chart at catcher for the 'Bows.
Last summer while playing with the Rochester Honkers, Noworyta played well enough to earn one of Northwoods League's 'Finest in the Field' Awards, given to the top defenders at each position.
Noworyta posted a .996 fielding percentage and batted .273 for the Honkers. Noworyta will join pitcher Jackson Rees (Toronto Blue Jays) in signing an FA deal.
In the 2018 MLB Draft, Kekai Rios was selected by the Milwaukee Brewers (28th round) and Dylan Thomas was chosen by the Minnesota Twins (38th round).
