HILO, BIG ISLAND (HawaiiNewsNow) - The American Red Cross is assisting 10 displaced residents after a house fire in Hilo on Wednesday night.

Big Island fire officials say the blaze started in the kitchen when cooking oil caught fire just before 9:30 p.m.

The flames then spread to an adjacent room.

Crews were able to put out the fire before it spread further.

No injuries were reported.

The fire caused approximately $100,000 in damage.
