WAIKIKI (HawaiiNewsNow) - Honolulu police officials say the owner of a large cache of loaded weapons that was found during a raid on a Waikiki hotel room last week remained hospitalized for evaluation on Monday.
The search, which involved investigators with both the FBI and HPD, was prompted by disturbing posts on social media, sources say. The arsenal included an AR-15 rifle, hundreds of rounds of ammunition, and an assortment of other weapons.
The man staying in the room was transported to the hospital and was not arrested or charged with any crime.
The FBI notified Honolulu police last Thursday about a guest in a room at the Equus Hotel, saying he was claiming to be a federal agent in disturbing posts on social media. The 38-year old claimed his mission was to hunt terrorist cells.
The weapons were legally registered to the man, and having them in his room was also legal.
Sources say that police did find psychiatric medication in the room, allowing them to seize the cache until a mental health evaluation can be completed.
