WAIALUA, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Emergency personnel responded to two crashes on the same road in Waialua on Sunday night and Monday morning.

The first one happened just before 7 p.m. Sunday.

Honolulu police said a 21-year-old man was speeding on Kaukonahua Road when he lost control of his vehicle and slammed into a utility pole between Farrington Highway and Hukilau Loop. The car then went off the road, down an embankment and went through several trees before finally coming to a stop.

Paramedics took the man to the hospital in extremely critical condition. A 24-year-old man who was a passenger suffered minor injuries and refused to be taken to the hospital, paramedics said.

"We do believe alcohol was a factor," said Honolulu Police Lt. Ben Moszkowicz. "We want to remind public there are lots of safe alternatives to drinking and driving."

And several hours later, the same road was shut down in the Waialua area due to a motorcycle crash.

The motorcyclist was taken to the hospital in serious condition, the city Department of Emergency Services said.

It's unclear what caused the crash, but the road was reopened around 4:10 a.m.
