KAUAI (HawaiiNewsNow) - A helicopter pilot is uninjured after making an emergency landing in Lumahai on Tuesday morning.
The Airborne Aviation helicopter was returning from a trip collecting refuse from Wainiha and Haena residents affected by severe flooding, when it lost power — prompting the pilot to make an emergency landing in a forrested area near Lumahai.
The uninjured pilot was airlifted out of the area by another nearby Airborne Aviation pilot around 11:45 a.m.. The downed helicopter is currently inaccessible, and will be retrieved at another time, according to Kauai fire officials.
The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board were notified of the incident.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
