PUNA, BIG ISLAND (HawaiiNewsNow) - At least nine structures have been destroyed by volcanic activity on the Big Island, according to Hawaii County Civil Defense officials.
Fissures continued spewing lava into parts of Leilani Estates on Sunday morning, with molten rock being shot more than 200 feet into the air in some places, officials said. A number of roads have also either been covered in lava or severely cracked.
Big Island resident John Kapono Carter posted a video to Facebook of a Leilani Estates home being engulfed by lava and flames on Saturday morning.
