KOHALA COAST (HawaiiNewsNow) -

The Mauna Lani Bay Hotel in Waikoloa will shut down for more than a year while undergoing a $100 million renovation to 'revitalize and reinvigorate' the resort, the company says.

A hotel spokesperson says management explored 'every option' for the project, including partial closures, before deciding that the entire resort needed to shut down for 14 months, beginning in October of 2018.

The closure is expected to affect roughly 400 employees at the resort. The company said in a press release that the renovation would allow the hotel to employ more staff post-renovation than are currently working there now.
