OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The airport off-ramp on the H-1 Freeway headed westbound will be closed on Monday night for the Daniel K. Inouye International Airport sign replacement project.
About 3,100 signs, including those along roadways, in HNL terminals and in parking structures, will be removed, retrofitted, or replaced as part of the project. The Exit 16 off-ramp to the airport will be closed from 11:30 p.m. Monday night to 4:30 a.m. Tuesday morning, while signs are being replaced.
During the off-ramp's closure hours, message boards will be placed throughout the area including Nimitz Highway, Dillingham Boulevard, Middle Street and the Moanalua Freeway off-ramp to the airport viaduct.
The airport off-ramp will be closed again at 11:30 p.m. on May 16 until 4:30 a.m. on May 17 to reinstall the sign. The sign removal and replacement project will involve electrical work, traffic control and ceiling patching in addition to the structural replacement and improvements to the signs.
The entire project is expected to be complete in the summer of 2019.
