Team Aloha puts Hawaii on map in 'Elite is Earned Spring Invitational'

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The all-star girls representing prep basketball programs from across Hawaii went 5-0 to win the Elite is Earned Spring Invitational basketball tournament in California last week.

The event attracted 72 teams in four age-based divisions, with Team Aloha competing in the 17-and-under group of 40 teams, the largest category.

Team Aloha began the tournament with two exhibition games on Friday, besting the Salt Lake Metros Gold, 62-35 and the NorCal Dynasty Elite of the Bay Area, 56-26. On Saturday, the girls added two more victories to their record, going 50-38 against the Alaska Stars Gold and 64-39 against the Lady Spartans Elite of Sacramento.

The championship game was against Cal Sparks San Diego, 45-38 for the title.

Team Aloha consisted of players Alayna Akiona of Kalani, Paige Fahrni of Mid-Pacific, Kelsie Imai of Waiakea, Kamalu Kamakawiwo'ole of Maryknoll, Sisilia Kaufusi of Kahuku, Caiyle Kaupu of Konawaena, Brilie Kovaloff of Mid-Pacific, Leiah Naeata of Kahuku, Kalina Obrey of Kamehameha-Kapalama, Teves Suan of Waipahu, Jalen Tanuvasa of Maryknoll and Tanniya Uchida of Konawaena.

This team, the 12th in Team Aloha's history, consisted of underclassmen in grades 9-11.
