Collapsed storm drain causes traffic troubles near Ward Avenue

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Traffic in the Ward area may be slow-going as crews repair a collapsed storm drain.

Repair work is taking place on a 21-inch storm drain near the upper portion of the avenue.

The collapse caused a large sinkhole that backed up traffic for much of Thursday afternoon.

Motorists should expect delays or avoid the area.

Ward Avenue reopened late Thursday night, but the city says it will be closed again Friday morning. The closure will stretch between Green Street and and Lunalilo Street in both directions.

Repair work may stretch into Saturday.
