HILO, BIG ISLAND (HawaiiNewsNow) - A missing Big Island inmate on extended furlough was arrested and returned to the Hawaii Community Correctional Center on Monday morning.
Troy Chung-Hoon, 35, was declared missing in January after failing to check in with his case manager at the Hale Nani Reintegration Center in Hilo. Inmates in the extended furlough program live and work outside of the correctional center, but are required to check in several times a month.
Chung-Hoon is being held in community custody, which is the lowest custody level, and is serving time for operating a vehicle under the influence of an intoxicant.
The Department of Public Safety says that escape in the second degree may be added to his charges.
