MANOA, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

The Manoa branch of The Outdoor Circle and Malama Manoa are teaming up to give away 1,000 trees on Saturday.

The event will be held from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Manoa Marketplace near the post office. Volunteers from the two community groups, and tree specialists will be there to hand out trees and answer any planting questions.

Residents can choose from a variety of trees and other plants including kukui nut trees, plumeria trees and papaya trees, among others.

“Our urban forest is diminishing day by day, said Jeremy Lam of Outdoor Circle. "By giving away 1,000 trees, we are taking a small step to diminish the glare, improve the air, increase the shade, cool our homes, and make the island healthier.”
