Big Island youth program staff member charged with 9 sexual offenses

PUNA, BIG ISLAND (HawaiiNewsNow) -

A 37-year-old Puna man has been charged in connection with a sexual assault of a minor reported in Hilo. 

Police charged Paul Andrew Banasihan Jr. of Keaau with three counts of fourth degree sexual assault and six counts of second degree sexual assault.

A female minor reported that Banasihan, a staff member of a youth program in Hilo, removed her from her classroom on Tuesday and took her to his personal vehicle located on premises, where he allegedly sexually assaulted her.

Banasihan posted $66,000 bail on Friday.

 His initial court appearance is scheduled for May 15.
