HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Max Holloway is getting his wish to fight at UFC 226 on the ninth island.
Joining teammate and close friend Yancy Medeiros on the card will be the UFC featherweight champion and Waianae native, Holloway. On July 7th, Holloway will take on Ortega for the 145-pound title in Las Vegas, according to the UFC.
Holloway has defended his featherweight belt against former champion Jose Aldo but has had two fights fall apart this year. The first was a title defense against Frankie Edgar at UFC 222 before Holloway injured himself in training followed by the much-hyped superfight between Khabib Nurmagomedov for the lightweight title at UFC 223.
Holloway was unable to make the 155-pound weight limit on six days notice, but will have plenty of time to be in shape and get his weight under control with a July date in Las Vegas.
