HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The Hawaii Foodbank will host its 29th annual food drive on Saturday, which helps the "Food 4 Keiki" Program.
The program provides extra weekend meals for children from low-income households, meaning the kids get food packages when they go home from school on Fridays.
It's a big boost for students at Kaiulani Elementary in Kalihi.
"We feed so many working families out there who don't have the means to purchase food for their families," said Kim Bartenstein of the Hawaii Foodbank. "They are working paycheck to paycheck, working more than one job. And so we want to help them and supplement with some of the items the kids can have over the weekend when they're not in school."
The kits contain nutritious foods the children can prepare themselves.
The annual Foodbank food drive takes place this Saturday, the 21st, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
