HAWAII KAI, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

The force of floodwaters from Hahaione Stream was so strong Friday night that a family of three inside a home on Makaniolu Place in Hawaii Kai was trapped.

"The doors were kind of stuck and then all of a sudden the couches are floating," resident Kirby Hollinger said.

Hollinger is still in shock and unable to remember all of details of that night.

Zeke Anthony said his girlfriend's mother narrowly escaped through a window.

"She pushed herself out. This screen here underneath this piece of wood and crawled out under here," he said.

Now, the low-income family is picking up the pieces with no insurance and little help except for a few good Samaritans.

Massive piles of furniture, wood and household goods sit outside their home. Waterlogged cars were also on property.

"This is the worst house in this neighborhood. It's pretty bad," said Anthony.

Meanwhile, Papai Street in Aina Haina was bustling with activity with multiple bulky trash pick-ups, huge loads still waiting to be taken away and chocolate-colored swimming pools not yet cleaned.
