HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A federal jury on Wednesday found a man guilty for attacking his wife at a campground at Haleakala National Park on Maui in 2017.

Matthew Berckmann, 44, faces 20 years in federal prison for assault with a dangerous weapon and assault of his spouse by strangulation.

Prosecutors said he threatened his wife with a large kitchen knife while holding his forearm against her throat, pinning her to the ground.

Berckmann will be sentenced in August.
