HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The Rainbow Warrior baseball team fell short against CSU Bakersfield tonight on the road in a 4-3 loss.
Hawaii (20-13, 6-3 BWC) couldn't complete the comeback against CSU Bakersfield (14-21) to drop their 13th game on the season leaving seven runners on base throughout the game. The game marked the final non-conference game on the 'Bows' schedule.
Maaki Yamazaki wasted no time in getting the Warriors offense going with a first-inning leadoff single that allowed Johnny Weeks to surpass Michael Dartt (1996-99) in the record books as the all-time career sac bunts leader for Hawaii at 41.
With Yamazaki in scoring position, DH Logan Pouelsen made it a 1-0 game on an RBI-double.
However, CSUB was able to tie the game up at one apiece thanks to a Luis Martinez' solo home run to left field. Martinez would later get the 'Bows for another score off reliever Brody Hagel-Pitt, stretching the advantage to 4-1.
The Warriors battled back with a sixth-inning two-run homer from third baseman Ethan Lopez, but Hawaii's rally came up short.
The 'Bows will now face Cal State Fullerton (17-18, 4-2 BWC) in a three-game set at Goodwin Field starting on Friday through Sunday.
