KALIHI (HawaiiNewsNow) - A 25-year-old man was indicted Wednesday for second-degree attempted murder and three firearm charges in connection with a Kalihi shooting last week.

Edrei Arreola is accused in the April 18 shooting that left a 19-year-old man in serious condition from gunshot wounds.

Witnesses reported hearing up to eight shots around that time.

The area between the 3300 block and 3600 block of Kalihi Street was blocked off by police for the attempted murder investigation. The blocks were reopened later after 10 p.m.

Authorities said Arreola initially fled, but he was later arrested on Sand Island Parkway about 30 minutes later.

It's unclear if Arreola and the victim knew each other.

Arreola's bail has been set at $250,000.

He pleaded not guilty on Monday morning during his initial court appearance.
