HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The Rainbow Warriors took on the No. 1 ranked team in the country tonight in Honolulu, and fell just short of pulling off the upset.
The 'Bows lost a five-set thriller to No. 1 Long Beach State tonight at the Stan Sheriff Center. Tonight marked the first time all season that Hawaii went five sets.
Hawaii, ranked No. 6 in the country, fell behind early but came back to tie things up at one set apiece. Long Beach would go on to win the third set but the 'Bows stormed back to win the fourth and force a fifth set in an instant classic.
Stijn Van Tilburg led the way for Hawaii with a match-high 20 kills, but it wasn't enough as Long Beach held off the 'Bows in a back-and-forth final frame.
The 'Bows will return for senior night tomorrow to take on Long Beach again at 7 p.m.
