Rescue crews continued their search on Tuesday for a missing swimmer in the Champagne Ponds area of the Big Island.

The U.S. Coast Guard says the missing man, 31-year-old Logan Whitfield, was last seen Sunday night. He was identified shortly after being reported missing as a visitor from Canada, according to authorities on Hawaii Island.

Whitfield’s mother told local officials that her son went swimming at Champagne Ponds at around 6 p.m., but did not return. Crews with the Coast Guard, Hawaii Police Department and Hawaii Fire Department are canvassing the area for any signs of Whitfield.

He is described as 5’10” and weighing 170 pounds, with short black hair and a goatee. He was last seen wearing black swim trunks, a black t-shirt, water shoes, a black mask and snorkel.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Coast Guard at (808) 842-2600.
