Police identify Big Island officer who fatally shot wife, then himself

MOUNTAIN VIEW, BIG ISLAND (HawaiiNewsNow) - Big Island police have identified the officer who fatally shot his estranged wife in a Puna home Sunday and then turned the gun on himself.

Christopher R. Allison, 50, fatally shot himself in the head, police have determined. Allison was an officer with the Hawaii Police Department.

The victim was identified as Jolene-Rae K. Kapua-Allison, 54.

She suffered a single gunshot wound to the head and her death has been classified as a homicide.

Since her death, family and friends have taken to social media to call for an end to domestic violence.

"You will be missed but not forgotten," one Facebook poster wrote.

Police said the bodies of the two were found in a home on Kini Road about 3:25 p.m. Sunday.
