The Rainbow Wahine softball team picked up their first Big West Conference win of the season in their home-opener against Cal Poly, defeating the Mustangs 1-0 tonight at the Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.

Hawaii (17-16, 1-3 Big West) squeaked out the win over Cal Poly (17-16, 1-3 BWC) thanks to a dominant performance from pitcher Dana Thomsen, who threw a four-hit shutout.

Chardonnay Pantastico drilled an RBI-double to earn the ‘Bows the victory in a hard-fought contest.

Thomsen threw all seven innings, surrendering just four hits with no walks and four strikeouts. It was her third shutout of the season and her sixth shutout of her career. She is now 10-10 overall and 1-1 in conference on the season.

Cal Poly's Lindsey Chalmers suffered the complete game loss, dropping her record to 12-6 overall. She also gave up four hits with one walk in six innings of work.

The two teams will square off in a series-ending doubleheader tomorrow. First pitch of Game 1 is set for 2 p.m., HT.
