Mayor to declare April 3 National Service Recognition Day

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - On Tuesday, Mayor Kirk Caldwell — along with several dozen members of Senior Corps and AmeriCorps — will be celebrating the first ever National Service Recognition Day.

National Service Recognition Day is meant to acknowledge the efforts of volunteers who donate their time and resources to causes like poverty, homeless and hunger at more than 50,000 locations across the country.

During the ceremony, Derrick Ariyoshi, director of the Corporation for National and Community Service Hawaii, will announce five AmeriCorps members who will start working at the city's Office of Housing and the Office of Climate Change, Sustainability and Resiliency.
