HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - No, this is not an April Fool's joke. This is actually happening.
Tony Ferguson has pulled out of his upcoming UFC 223 fight with Khabib Nurmagomedov. Because of that, Waianae native and UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway will meet Nurmagomedov for the UFC lightweight title, according to UFC president Dana White.
Ferguson reportedly suffered a leg injury a few days ago. This will be Holloway's first return to the Octagon since suffering an injury of his own last month when he was pulled from UFC 222.
Holloway has expressed a willingness to move up to lightweight before, but this is a stunning turn of events. If Holloway were to win this Saturday, he would become just the second man in history to hold the featherweight and lightweight titles at the same time, second to only Conor McGregor.
