FORT LEE, VIRGINIA (HawaiiNewsNow) - For the fourth year in a row, Joint Team Hawaii was named Culinary Team of the Year after taking top honors at the 43rd annual Joint Culinary Training Exercise.
The local group competed against 17 other teams, composed of the military's best culinary professionals, in Fort Lee, Virginia.
Joint Team Hawaii is the first to win the top title for four consecutive years.
The JCTE is the largest military culinary competition in North America. This year there were over 450 entries and 232 competitors in the competition.
Sanctioned by the American Culinary Federation, the competition showcases talented military chefs from around the world, and includes contenders from the U.S. Army, Navy, Coast Guard, Marines, German Army, Royal Navy, British Army and the Canadian Army.
Hawaii's 10-person team spent over 1,500 hours preparing for the competition.
A total of 332 gold, silver and bronze medals went to 232 military chefs competing in 450 events at the week-long competition, according to results from Combined Arms Support Command.
