HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The Hawaiian Humane Society has a message this Easter: Bunnies are cute, but the chocolate variety might be a better option as a seasonal gift.
Last year, residents surrendered 93 rabbits to the humane society in April and May.
That was up from 57 the year before.
Before getting a rabbit, the society says, "consider your lifestyle, availability of time and resources," said Valerie Palumbo, adoptions manager at the Hawaiian Humane Society.
Rabbits are adorable, but they're also a lot of work. And they live for up to a decade on average.
