BIG ISLAND (HawaiiNewsNow) - Authorities have identified the opihi picker who died March 20 after drowning near Paauilo Landing as 43-year-old Elihu Hinchcliffe.
Hinchcliffe, who often went by Eli, died after being swept out to sea and drowning in Big Island waters.
A Honokaa native, Hinchcliffe was a cook at the Red Water Cafe in Waimea for four years. "He was an excellent cook and everyone loved him," said David Abraham, Red Water Cafe's owner.
Hinchcliffe is survived by his five children.
Family and friends held a funeral service for him Saturday.
