HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Monday was a very special Prince Kuhio Day for Pai'ea Kamahoahoa.
The 11-year-old has a strong connection to the late Hawaiian prince.
Not only does the Prince Kuhio Elementary student share a birthday with the prince himself, this year Pai'ea was selected to play the role of Jonah Kuhio Kalanianaole in the school's Kuhio Day tribute celebration at the Hilton Waikiki Beach Prince Kuhio Hotel (on, you guessed it, Kuhio Avenue).
After a stellar performance in front of a large crowd, Pai'ea was riding high when his class spontaneously started singing happy birthday to him.
And that's when things got unbelievably cute.
His class and family had been keeping a big birthday surprise from him — in the form of a four-legged friend.
As Pai'ea was called to the front, the audience singing "Happy Birthday" to him in Hawaiian, one of his classmates presented him with his new best friend.
Pai'ea's reaction to meeting the puppy was priceless, full of tears of joy that were downright infectious.
No surprise: Pai'ea said it was his best birthday ever.
