For this week's Food Fix with Frolic Hawaii, they posted 4 of their popular local dishes on their Instagram page and asked which of these warm comfort foods you would want in your belly. Is it the real lump Crab artichoke dip with homemade blue corn tortilla chips from Moena Cafe. Or is it the hearty Lomo saltado, a stir fried Peruvian beef dish served with french fries from Limon Rotisserie Perhaps you would prefer the Tantan nabe from Japanese Restaurant Aki with pork belly, a medley of mushrooms, simmered in a rich nutty sesame broth. The last option is the Quattro formaggi, a four-cheese pizza with local honey on top of a wood fired crust from Appetito Craft Pizza & Wine Bar.
The winner this week was the crab artichoke dip that was posted by Frolic Contributor Kelli Shiroma. She said that it's only on the happy hour and dinner menu at Moena Cafe's Kapolei location, not the one in Hawaii Kai. They use a large amount of blue crab to create a meaty texture that's not too saucy. Kelli's favorite part is the Parmesan cheese that's grated on top to create a richer taste. It's heated in the salamander oven and served with in-house made blue corn tortilla chips. Kelli believes that's why the chips are never stale because they're always freshly made. Moena Cafe owner Eric Chang said the crab artichoke dip is their second most popular dish on the menu. The favorite - the poke nachos.
